A Modern Update for an I.M. Pei Gem
Denver's first modern tower, 1700 Broadway, was also one of Pritzker Prize-winning architect I.M. Pei's first high-rise commissions. Thus not only does the mid-century gem benefit from a notable lineage, but its location at the heart of a thriving city experiencing a tech boom made it a prime candidate to become an innovative urban campus. MAWD's approach used research and insights to create engaging “wow” moments geared to create a tailored experience for Coloradans’ active lifestyles.
The 100’ atrium, the visual heart of the campus, is designed to promote social interaction and wellness for a happier and more productive workforce.
Renowned architect I.M. Pei designed the iconic 22-story tower, which is located in the heart of booming downtown Denver.

State-of-the-art wellness and learning amenities are becoming a major driver for innovative tech and life sciences companies looking to attract and retain the best talent.

MAWD re-programmed the entire public facing atrium space and created communal moments, such as these Spanish Steps, that allow greater use of the space throughout the day.

New gathering moments were created to enhance the communal experience of the atrium. Here MAWD designed oversize seating areas with central fireplaces to respond to the seasonal nature of Denver.

The new lobby was designed to be warm and approachable. MAWD deployed signature touches of flutter wood with strong green elements and bronze detailing.
