Projects
Developed by Beacon Capital Partners, Berkeley Commons and Southline San Francisco represent two dynamic projects that showcase how wellness and hospitality design are evolving within the workplace. Located in the heart of Northern California's most dynamic technology and commercial centers, MAWD worked closely with architecture and development teams to craft an interior amenity program that placed emphasis on the employee experience, providing amenity spaces that support social and wellbeing elements, while tapping into the natural landscape and lifestyle of The Bay Area.
For Southline San Francisco, MAWD's scope of work included a dynamic series of wellness spaces, from a yoga studio, to cardio room, and flexible strength training center. The design for wellness spaces is warm, yet minimal. Elevated through exposed concrete walls, near floor-to-ceiling windows, and warm wood panels which wraps around all three spaces.

Both Berkeley Commons and Southline San Francisco have received LEED Gold Rating for Sustainability. MAWD was honored to be part of this story, and uphold this sustainability certification through strategic choices in FF&E design curation.

For Berkeley Commons, MAWD conceived an arrival experience that seamlessly blends hospitality and workplace function, anchoring the entry sequence with a welcoming front desk reception, a curated café, and a variety of seating options for both employees and guests. Inspired by the surrounding natural landscape of the San Francisco Bay, the design is grounded in a soft, light-filled color palette and an authentic layering of natural materials. Warm wood tones, natural jute rugs, and tactile, comfortably scaled seating introduce a sense of calm and connection to nature, shaping an atmosphere that feels both refined and organic while immediately setting the tone for the experience within.
Beyond the arrival lounge and integrated laptop bar, a full-service café serves as the social heart of the space, infusing the workplace with a warm hospitality sensibility where coffee meetings and informal gatherings unfold effortlessly. Carefully selected bistro lighting, a sculptural marble countertop, and gracefully curved arches beneath introduce moments of architectural interest, elevating the café into a designed destination rather than a simple amenity. Together, these hospitality-driven elements foster a sense of community and belonging, ensuring that every first impression at Berkeley Commons feels inviting, elevated, and thoughtfully connected to place.

Increasingly, MAWD partners with clients to elevate wellness as a central pillar of workplace design—an emphasis that now shapes projects in both meaningful and measurable ways. At Southline San Francisco, Beacon Capital Partners adopted a dynamic, sustainability-driven approach, culminating in LEED Gold certification for both buildings. Within the wellness center, a palette of natural materials, including warm woods, forges a seamless connection to the surrounding landscape while promoting healthier interior environments for both occupants and the planet. Expansive floor-to-ceiling glazing further strengthens the indoor–outdoor relationship, bathing the spaces in natural light and reducing overall energy demand.
