Reimagining heritage for the future of work
Located in the heart of the City’s legal and financial district, Peterborough Court is a listed landmark brought into the present day through a considered interior transformation. Located on Fleet Street, Peterborough Court was previously home to Goldman Sachs and is set across 270,000 sqft and has undergone a sensitive refurbishment, balancing the gravitas of the original historic Art Deco façade with the needs of the modern occupier.
MAWD was appointed to design the interiors for the long gallery and reception areas, delivering a workplace experience that meets the expectations of today’s city professionals while honouring the building’s distinguished architectural legacy.
At Peterborough Court, our role was to honour the building’s rich Art Deco heritage while redefining it for the modern City professional.
Designed for the demographic of the City worker
Drawing on MAWD’s distinctive expertise, the interiors were shaped around a clear understanding of the modern City demographic: highly mobile, hybrid-focused, and experience-led.
A contemporary reception, with hospitality led communal zones, all contribute to a warm and inviting workplace where people feel welcome, supported and engaged throughout the day. The lighting, MAWD worked on in conjunction with BDP lighting and spatial planning are choreographed to promote fluid movement while fostering moments of pause and connection.
Amenity-led thinking within a heritage shell
At Peterborough Court, amenity isn’t an add-on—it’s integral to the user journey. MAWD designed breakout lounges, informal meeting zones and flexible collaboration areas within the constraints of the original footprint, ensuring functionality without compromising architectural integrity.
Natural materials and tonal palettes echo the building’s Art Deco heritage while introducing a modern language of comfort and calm. Anodised bronze and bespoke joinery reference the craftsmanship of the original interiors, subtly bridging past and present.
A new chapter for a Fleet Street icon
MAWD’s interior design approach respects the building’s history while writing a new story for its future. It creates a workplace ecosystem where elegance and efficiency co-exist, and where the design speaks directly to the people who use it.
