MAWD's Shelley Baxter joins a leading panel of architects to discuss the impact of lighting design on architecture and interiors.

Moderated by esteemed design critic Adrian Madlener, MAWD's Shelley Baxter was recently joined by Robert Young of Robert Young Architects and Felix Ade of YUN Architecture for a lively discussion on the importance of lighting design on both architecture and interior design. Shelley presented two notable projects: The Greenwich by Rafael Viñoly and No.1 Knightsbridge, London

For The Greenwich, Shelley referenced the project's hospitality-style grand entrance, where a dimly lit corridor leads to an expansive triple-height lobby, lit from a custom chandelier, and backlit custom bookcases. For the amenity spaces, MAWD worked to ensure that the natural light and views emitting from the floor-to-ceiling windows took center stage. Careful consideration was paid to lighting during the evening hours, to create a functional, yet club and spa-like feel.

For No. 1 Knightsbridge, MAWD inherited a naturally lit atrium, which our team converted to amenity co-working space. MAWD used lighting and greenery to accentuate the atrium, and bring the space down to human scale. Additionally, integrated lighting has been embedded into the banquette seating, with additional table lamps to create a sense of warmth and intimacy.
