A conversation on urban identity, materiality and contemporary living in Belgrade

The unveiling of The Dorcol Residence marked an important moment for MAWD - introducing our first concept architecture project, created in collaboration with Brixwell Investment in one of Belgrade’s most historic neighbourhoods.

Held within a temporary pavilion constructed on site, the launch brought together leading figures from architecture, culture and the creative industries, alongside members of the Belgrade design community. The evening centred around an architectural model presenting the scale, geometry and urban composition of the project, followed by a panel discussion exploring how the development responds to place, heritage and contemporary patterns of living.

A Panel Conversation on Architecture, Culture and Belgrade’s Next Chapter

During the gala presentation, James White, Co-Founder of MAWD, joined the panel alongside Branislav Mirković and Tamara Kalinić to discuss the design intent and the responsibility of working within such a historically resonant district. The discussion reflected themes central to MAWD’s ethos, context before style, craft over spectacle, and longevity as a measure of value.

Our approach began with understanding Dorćol - its rhythms, its everyday life, its architectural memory. Rather than impose a new language, we sought to build upon what already exists, translating it into a contemporary expression that feels both rooted and forward-looking. This project reflects Belgrade as a living, evolving city - one that carries its heritage while confidently shaping its future.

Designing for Legacy, Community and Contemporary Living

Across the architecture and interior design, MAWD’s vision places emphasis on light, proportion, movement and everyday experience - creating spaces that feel rooted in Belgrade while meeting the standards of leading global metropolitan developments. The design approach reflects a contemporary European lifestyle, where craftsmanship, longevity and adaptability sit at the forefront of residential quality.

Phase One of the project has already set a new benchmark for the local market, with all 100 residences sold within 47 days, marking a record achievement in Serbia’s luxury real estate sector.

A Shared Moment of Culture and Celebration

The event concluded with a live performance by regional music icon Zdravko Čolić, underscoring the project’s connection to cultural identity and civic life rather than simply development.

MAWD is proud to collaborate with Brixwell Investment and the wider project team, and to contribute to an architectural conversation that looks beyond form - toward place-making, legacy and the emotional experience of living in a city like Belgrade.
