On September 4th, MAWD's UK Design Director Jane Maciver was invited by Ligne Agency to join a curated VIP day at Maison&Objet Paris.

Renowned as one of the world’s leading design fairs, Maison&Objet brings together international brands, makers, and visionaries to showcase the latest in furniture, interiors, and craftsmanship. Walking the halls of Maison&Objet, Jane experienced first-hand the extraordinary breadth of craftsmanship shaping today’s design landscape. From bespoke marquetry created in Spain by Atelier D’art JC, to the poetic use of textured glass in the work of Matthieu Gicquel, and the enduring heritage of Italian atelier Lorenzi, the event revealed how traditional skills are being refined and reimagined for a global audience.

It was amazing to see so many brands representing such a diverse and high level of craftsmanship across so many objects and furniture pieces,” reflects Jane. “What stood out most was the way makers are pushing boundaries — not just preserving heritage techniques but transforming them into something truly contemporary and inspiring.

Alongside the exhibition, Jane attended The Talks programme, where international designers and thought leaders shared insights into the future of design. A highlight was “Designing for Transmission: From One Generation to Another”, which explored how craft traditions are sustained, modernised, and passed on. The dialogue echoed MAWD’s own commitment to design that is enduring, human-focused, and deeply connected to materiality.

For Jane, the curated VIP experience underscored the continuing importance of craft-led collaboration in shaping interiors that are both culturally grounded and globally relevant. Events like Maison&Objet remain vital moments to engage with the makers and studios driving innovation at every scale — from bespoke objects to large-scale residential projects.
