Luxury Living at a prestigious London address

For APML Estate's redevelopment of prestigious Knightsbridge Gate, MAWD were appointed to design two model residences and style the two entrance receptions and residential common areas.

Applying our research-based experience-centric design process (EXCD), MAWD delivered an intuitive transformation of the show apartments with two contemporary interior schemes appealing to key demographics.

A light, comfortable look and feel; we have taken our work with APML Estate one step further and reinvented the notion of a traditional British interior.

The duplex apartment imagines a Dior or Chanel fashion buyer in residence.

With the Edwardian heritage of the building and the modern glamour of Knightsbridge in mind, MAWD pictured the gallerist, the design enthusiast, the fashion buyer. This was a rich pool of inspiration from which to deliver a contemporary aesthetic in a heritage setting.

In the reception, MAWD played with the proportion of the wall panels to heighten the sense of grandeur. Bronze edged mirrors frame the dining area, adding a sense of depth. Above the dining table, the pendant's tinted globes create a warm light, setting the atmosphere for dinner parties.

The living space extends out on to a terrace where low level lanterns and soft lighting create an ambient mood for evening drinks.

In the master bedroom, a statement headboard is the centrepiece, inset with leather, framed in dark timber and trimmed in brass. The red cushions tie in with the warm pops of colour that punctuate the monochrome palette across the apartment.

When approaching a new design, we always start from the point of the view of the ‘end user’ – the person who’s going to be inhabiting the space. The second model residence, a lateral apartment, is a modern classic imagining the seasoned gallerist or design enthusiast.

A rich palette of materials, colours and textures, combined with intricate detailing and bespoke joinery, have created elegant interiors of the highest calibre.

Our experience-centric design process considers demographics but also personas – for example, what are their goals, needs and aspirations? Who are they?

In the dining room above, a timeless monochrome palette is complimented by warm bronze tones in the detailing of the mirrors, the statement pendant lighting, and custom-made dining chairs.

MAWD styled the apartment's monochrome hallway with a statement lamp and decorative items that complemented the residents' imagined personas.

The master bedroom features a muted colour palette with dusty blue tones and brass accents for contrast, tactile materials and organic shapes. A reading nook with ambient lighting and softly hued art completes the room, creating a spot for relaxation morning or night.
